Cover design
People do judge a book by its cover! Browse any online bookseller and notice how much an attractive cover catches your eye and lures you into reading more. NorthWord can create an eye-popping cover that begs for a closer look. Choose from one of our templates (make it unique by selecting the design, colors, and image), or we’ll work with you to create a custom design.
Promotional Web Page
NorthWord will create a unique web page to promote your book for just $99.95 (we’ll even host your site for just $9.95 per month). Have fun creating your own domain name, which you can purchase for less than ten dollars from a variety of third parties. Preparing your manuscript for conversion
Writers often go to great lengths to add fancy formatting in their quest for a pleasing layout. That works great for 8.5x11 inch paper but is counter-productive for electronic books. Electronic readers stumble over line breaks, tabs, and almost every format that writers slave over to make their page look better; for eBooks, simpler is better! Before you submit your manuscript for conversion, do the following to ensure a professional appearance:
Formatting
- SPACING: 1 space between sentences, 2 spaces between paragraphs, and text should be double spaced. Remove extra line spaces. The only place where there should be more than two consecutive spaces is between the chapter heading and the body text. Use no more than 3 consecutive line spaces anywhere because some smaller readers interpret multiple spaces as a blank page.
- HEADERS and FOOTERS: Remove headers, footers, and page numbers.
- LINE and PAGE BREAKS: Remove all line breaks (created when a user presses SHIFT-Enter in Microsoft Word). Place a page break (CTRL-Enter in Microsoft Word) at the end of each chapter so that each chapter begins on a new page.
- FONTS: Use 12 pt Times New Roman for body text; headings no larger than 14 pt.
Ordering your pages
There are no hard and fast rules with eBooks as to front matter, but most readers of eBooks don’t want to click through a dozen pages to get the information they paid for. An easy solution is to simply place references, notes, author bio, and related information in the back of the book.
Suggested order of front matter:
- Cover.
- Title page.
- Copyright page
- Dedication
- Table of contents
